Kazimierz is a unique district of Krakow, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The history of this place dates back to 1335, when Casimir the Great decided to establish a city bearing his name near Wawel Castle. It was here that Jews were relocated in 1494 after the pogrom and created a ghetto, isolating themselves from the rest of the inhabitants. This marked the beginning of the flourishing of Jewish Kazimierz, which lasted until World War II.

Currently, Kazimierz is a mecca and an essential destination for tourists staying in Krakow. During a walk through the mysterious streets, you can feel the spirit of Krakow's bohemia. It is here where we will encounter extraordinary history, exceptional klezmer music, interesting architecture, and magnificent culinary art. Evenings in this place are incredible - it is simply a must-see spot during sightseeing, which will impress you in all possible ways.

SYNAGOGUES

Synagogues are an integral part of Kazimierz. You will find 7 of them here, each attractive thanks to its unique architecture and diverse interiors. It is worth paying attention to the 15th-century Old Synagogue, which is a branch of the Krakow Museum and presents the history and culture of Krakow's Jews in its exhibition. It is also worth taking a peek at the Hevre pub, which is located in the old synagogue.

MURALS AND SIGNS

Kazimierz is also famous for its numerous murals and shop signs, reminiscent of the old, Jewish streets. The most beautiful of them can be found on the main street of Kazimierz, which is Szeroka Street. There are many atmospheric pubs and unique shops with souvenirs, clothing, and handicrafts.

SCHINDLER'S LIST COURTYARD

ul. Józefa 12

Kazimierz is also the place where the famous film Schindler's List was shot. It featured the courtyard of the tenement house number 12 on Józefa Street, known as "the most beautiful courtyard of Kazimierz". From 1802 there was an inn here, and 150 years later it became a branch of the Old Town Youth Culture Centre and a favourite place for children from Kazimierz to meet and play . Today, this corner is full of café gardens, which create a unique atmosphere of this place.
